(1) Topic: Daily Management – PDCA
To improve self-management abilities using the mindsets of business management has always been our purpose, and the management theory we would like to share today is "Daily Management P D C A."
- Not improving working speed and quality?
- Working non-stop for a long time, but seeing no results?
- Making habitual mistakes at work?
- Always encountering the same problems, but having no better solutions?
Daily management is often related to PDCA. When an abnormal situation happens, not only could it be the fault of the subordinates, the supervisors should also reflect on and re-examine the process. Otherwise, the same mistakes will only repeat. What exactly is PDCA management theory? It was proposed by W. Edwards Deming, a well-known American management consultant, so PDCA is also called the “Deming cycle.” This four-step cycle is generally used to improve product quality and improve production processes.
What is PDCA?
PDCA is ensuring that every goal is achieved through the four steps of plan, do, check, and act.
Plan
Establish a clear goal, develop related plans and decide necessary procedures. In this way, the gap between the achieved results and the goals can be better measured and fixed.
Do
Carry out the plans and procedures specified in the previous step and collect necessary information to provide the basis for correction and improvement in the next step.
Check
Study the information collected in the previous step and compare it with the expectation (compare with the goals set in the planning stage). Then propose a modification plan, including the improvement of implementation and the perfection of the plan that improve the feasibility of the plan. Lists and data graphs can well show the gap between the results and expectations. These differences are necessary data for the next step.
Act
Usually, it is through researching the root cause of the problem, but for some problems, it takes a long time to find the root cause, which often results in no progress in the project. Therefore, short-term modifications that meet the target requirements would be temporarily adopted, while new projects would be created to improve the implementation process. In many cases, more detailed plan requirements would be proposed, making the planning step of the modified project easier and more detailed. Actually, the “act” in PDCA is sometimes replaced with “adjust.” Many adjustments might not be done in this cycle, but in the D step of the next cycle.。
Therefore, PDCA forms a cycle as shown in the picture below.
