(2) Topic: Enjoying Work

People spend most of their lives at work. Even if someone only spends 40 hours a week working, it is still almost 1/3 of his/her life spent at work. This is a terrifying fact that must be faced.       Now that we know that we spend so much time at work, how to make ourselves enjoy work becomes very important. Only so can we find a sense of belonging and see work as a part of our lives that make us happy and not just about making money.

      Course Outline

  1. 1. Ice Breakers
The workplace is like a battlefield. Sometimes, situations like competition, opposition, and politics, are inevitable. Once a conflict happens, grudges can be difficult to resolve. "When you reject a person, you are also rejecting all the resources behind them." The world is very small, and you might need your enemy’s help someday. “Let bygones be bygones” requires a lot of wisdom.

  1. 2. Key factors for enjoying work

      c.

      d.
      How you perceive your work.
      e.

      f.
Opportunities, goals and motivation to grow at work.
    2.

  1. 3. What to expect from the course
Get to know yourself before getting different perspectives of work. What’s most important is that you will find that having a good time will be a motivation for you to grow at work.

  1. 4. Lecturer's observation and feedback (icebreakers and Johari Window)
The Johari Window model has played a significant role in the field of corporate organizational dynamics. It shows the difference between self-cognition and the cognition of others. With the knowledge of Johari Window, workplace atmosphere and efficiency can be improved by adjusting and improving interpersonal interactions.

Johari Window

Not known to self and not known to others; a potential self that neither self nor others are aware of.
a. Open
Known to self and known to others; the self that is shown in public.
b. Blind
Not known to self and known to others; the self that others have observed in daily life, but self is not aware of.
c. Hidden
Known to self and not known to others; the parts that one consciously hides from others.
d. Unknown
Not known to self and not known to others; a potential self that neither self nor others are aware of.

So, how do we utilize the Johari Window model? Basically, reduce the blind self and the hidden self, and free up the space for open self to achieve more "known by self and known by others" in communications.

5. The iron triangle of enjoying work

Cycle of enjoying workHappy >>> Smart >>> Hard
>>>
Enjoy work

6.“Catch the Spy” game and teamwork

The problems which occur in the game might also happen at work. Trust and communication are very important

  1. 7. Conclusion

Is work a burden in life or something that we can have fun with? The answer to this question depends entirely on your perspective of work.
